Our experienced instructors or consultants mentor you over the phone while you are in front of your computer watching as we teach you how to use WebSmart, or they may be looking at your screen to work with you on your own application.
We use our own web desktop sharing software, Live Web Demos, as the preferred technology, or SaveOnConferences or WebEx. This allows you to view live presentations directly from our desktop or iSeries AS/400 session.
There are 2 options when it comes to our Web-Based Training service. You can select which one you prefer, or a combination of the two. Whether you choose the Structured Classroom or the Collaborative Consulting option, the training will take place in a web conference environment.
Option 1 - Structured Classroom
Structured Classroom training takes place in a virtual classroom environment, using professionally developed training materials including hands-on labs for you to complete on your own time to reinforce the lessons. We send you the training material for the labs in PDF format. You see our computer in real-time, so as we are working with the tool you see exactly what we are doing. We can also watch as you try the same steps on your PC.
Next, you get to work on your own time on labs to reinforce the visual lesson. Once you have completed each lab, you return to our virtual classroom for further instruction or to have your questions answered by your experienced instructor. Because you only pay for instruction time while you are directly connected to us in the virtual classroom this is a very cost-effective way to receive training.
Option 2 - Collaborative Consulting
Collaborative Consulting is a less structured approach where an experienced WebSmart Consultant works with you on your own application. The consultant can take control of your desktop and explain each step while they code based on your direction. If you prefer to be more hands on the consultant can offer suggestions and explanations while they watch you code your program. This is similar to the Extreme Programming technique that has become very popular during the last few years. You'll be learning from the most qualified WebSmart programmers in world. They'll teach you their programming techniques, save you time by showing you all the short cuts and they can demonstrate all of the features in WebSmart.
This approach works best in small groups of 1-2 programmers and when you have a clearly defined application in mind. In order to maximize your time with this approach we recommend that you already have a basic understanding of WebSmart and have created a few simple applications of your own.
Costs
You can purchase Web-based training time in blocks of 2 hours. Call us or email us for rates. If you purchase 10 or more hours, there is a 10% discount. For the Structured Classroom option, most clients find that 16 hours is usually the optimum amount of time to purchase.
Flexible Use
If you have any unused time from using the Structured Classroom option you can use your remaining time for Collaborative Consulting. You can gain customized education related to your specific application or business needs. For example, if you are challenged by coding a particular Javascript or need help with HTML design or want to know the best way to reuse legacy RPG business logic, you can use the time for help in those areas too.
