Nexus 2.50 Now Available
The latest release of Nexus is now available for download. You can download this version both as a new install or to upgrade your current release.
The new version includes a completely new demo site, Harmonics Wholesale, as well as over a dozen significant new features. Here are a few of the highlights:
- Spool-Explorer for the Web Portlet. The download includes a trial version of this new portlet that will work until the end of the year. Use this portlet to view, change, print and delete iSeries spool files from a customizeable list format.
- Messaging for the Web. This portlet is also available in a trial version until December 31, and you can use it to send messages to Nexus and iSeries users, using a powerful HTML editor that allows you to add various formatting options. From the message center you can view all your sent and received messages, as well as work with message in iSeries message queues. The Messaging for the Web portlet also includes a handy instant chat utility from which you can start secured chat sessions amongst other Nexus users.
- Many WOW (Web Object Warehouse) improvements, both to the interface and general performance.
These and many other enhancements and new features are now available in Nexus 2.50. If you have any questions about Nexus 2.50, please contact Technical Support. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have on the upgrade process or any of the new features.

WebSmart 5 Beta Now Shipping
The WebSmart 5 beta is now available for clients who want the earliest possible access to the new features, including the ILE/RPG to PML conversion tool which is a separate add on module. Hey, if you're upgrading legacy apps to the web, why wait for the full release? Take advantage of the new features now, while they're still hot!
One of the most important changes in WebSmart 5 has been the addition of a new generator, producing the following exciting features:
- Support for functions within functions; i.e. wrthtml(numtoalpha(numfield)).
- Support for type insensitive assignments; i.e. alphafield = datefield.
- Shared prototypes: New functions automatically distribute to other programmers.
- Multiple Uparsers: As an application developer, you can segregate your UPARSER functions.
- Client side parser/uparser (and other generator files)etc editing
- Faster generation speed (and client side, so offloads work from server)
These are all in addition to the features we've mentioned in previous technical updates:
- Many new HTML wizards for adding challenging web page elements.
- An SQL prototyping tool.
- New Vertical HTML view.
The following conversion tools are separate add on modules.
- An ILE/RPG to PML conversion tool.
- A DDS to HTML conversion tool.
During the beta you'll be able to work with the lead developers on any problems you encounter, as well as suggest changes and new features at a stage where the product is still relatively malleable and we can more quickly respond to feedback.
If you use ProGen WebSmart regularly, and would be interested in working with us on the beta test of the upcoming new release, we encourage you to visit the WebSmart 5 Beta Request page at our web site. WebSmart has an excellent track record with regards to the quality of its betas, so there is very little risk involved in participating.
If you have any questions about the beta, you can contact Technical Support. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have on the upgrade process or any of the new features.
New BCD Dealers
BCD is pleased to enter into association with three new international dealers: Intelli Computer (Indonesia and Singapore), AMMPlanac Solutions Ltda (Brazil) and Dagessa Sp. z o.o. (Poland).
We look forward to a long and mutually profitable relationship with our new partners. During the coming months we plan to include more in-depth profiles of our new partners in the technical updates.
WebSmart 5 Upcoming Training Seminars
We are beginning to organize a WebSmart 5 training seminar for early in the new year, most likely towards the end of January/beginning of February. This will be the first WebSmart 5 public training seminar, which will address all the new features (see the list above), so this is one you won't want to miss. In addition, we are investigating the possibility of holding the class in the North-Eastern US.
We are also beginning to put together a two-part course for late February or March, which would include the basic WebSmart 5 training, plus an advanced section. This course would spend 2 days on the new WebSmart 5 features, and another 2 days on advanced programming techniques.
If you are interested in attending either of these classes, and would like additional information, please fill out our Training Request form. You can also contact Marcel Sarrasin, our training coordinator.
New WebSmart Example Programs: Auto-refreshing, and Displaying List Sort Order

For further details on any of the WebSmart examples, or if you have any questions on how to implement the techniques they demonstrate, please contact Technical Support.
